Who it’s for
CommonYard for schools and students
A school yard gives a class, a hall or a whole school its own posts, polls, chat and events — plus Practice, a bank of past and practice questions to revise with. Free.
A school yard is a yard made for a school — a class, a hall, a department, a club or the whole school. Everyone in it gets the yard’s own posts, polls, chat and events, and one thing only school yards have: Practice, with its shelf of study materials.
Practice: revise with questions
Every school yard comes with Practice, a bank of past and practice questions to revise with.
- Choose your level, the course and the topic.
- Go timed or untimed, and pick how many questions — anything from 5 to 50.
- Answer, then see how you did.
- Inside a school yard, PRACTICE is a door on the bar, so revision is one tap away.
Study materials: the class shelf
Under PRACTICE, Study materials is the yard’s shelf of files: lecture slides, notes and past papers. The yard’s owner and admins upload them — PDF, PowerPoint, Word, Excel or text, up to 50 MB each, grouped by course — and every member can download them. See Share and download study materials.
There are past questions for University of Ghana (Legon) courses — UGRC 110 Academic Writing I, UGRC 150 Critical Thinking and Practical Reasoning, UGRC 220 Introduction to African Studies, UGBS 104 Principles of Management and more.
What else a school yard is good for
- Class decisions — a poll for the trip, the date, the class T-shirt, with a closing time so it actually ends.
- Study groups and hall weeks — events with a place and a time, and a reminder an hour before for everyone coming.
- The notice — the week’s one thing everyone must know, at the top of the yard.
- Chat — words, photos, videos and voice notes, under CHAT on the bar inside the yard.
- Games — Squad Trivia and Troll War between yards, quiz nights members make for the yard, and a weekly points ladder.
- Sub yards — one for each class, hall or club inside the school’s yard, with its own chat and admins. See Sub yards.
Who gets in
Whoever makes the yard runs it and can add admins and mods. Let in anyone with the link, only the people an admin approves, or nobody new for now. A post made in the yard stays in the yard.
